Lauren is the Founder and CEO of Virtuo Tutors. She earned a Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Teachers College, Columbia University. Lauren holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and she is licensed to practice Speech Pathology in both New York and Connecticut. Additionally, Lauren is certified as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) in New York State and an IBCCES Certified Student Mental Health Specialist (SMHS). Lauren is experienced in conducting evaluations and treatment in Early Intervention and with preschool and school-aged children with various learning, articulation, and language disorders. Lauren worked for several years as a learning specialist in a private school in Manhattan for students grades 4-12 with specific learning disorders, where she delivered daily one-to-one remediation sessions. Lauren also currently works as an Autism and Special Needs Life Coach for teens and adults with social pragmatic difficulties. Lauren is passionate about building a unique rapport with each of her clients to create a positive and productive learning environment. 

Alexandra is an experienced Early Childhood Educator whose chief aim is to nurture the whole child. She earned her master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Johns Hopkins University and has been teaching for six years. Since moving to New York, she has worked as a kindergarten teacher within the Achievement First Charter Network. Her passions as an educator include social-emotional learning, early literacy, and math. Alexandra wants kids to fall in love with learning, and she strives to achieve this through building strong relationships and engaging lessons.  In the 2018-2019 school year, Alexandra joined a small cohort of Achievement First teachers in becoming a “Distinguished Teacher.” Teachers advance to this stage through a combination of factors: a strong track record of student growth, strong instruction, strong family surveys, and strong peer/leader surveys. In the 2020-2021 school year, Alexandra transitioned from the classroom into an academic dean position in which she supports Kindergarten and 1st grade teachers, students, and families.  

Olivia received her bachelor’s degree in Communications at the University of Maryland. She went on to earn a Master of Arts in School Counseling with the qualifications to become a Licensed Professional Counselor at Fairfield University. Olivia is currently working at a private school in New York City providing daily one-on-one remediation for students with various learning disabilities. Her passion lies in reaching students of all ages and learning needs in a direct and personable dynamic. She believes in the power of one-on-one learning and understanding each student on an individualized level.

Laura is an inclusive elementary educator and an experienced tutor across a range of subject areas. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in linguistics and has a master's degree in Elementary Inclusive Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Laura holds New York State certifications in both Childhood Education and Students with Disabilities (grades 1-6). She currently works at a special education private school in a 3rd/4th-grade classroom. Prior to moving to New York for graduate school, Laura taught for two years in special education co-teaching classrooms at an inclusive charter school in Washington, D.C. She also has experience tutoring students in reading, writing, and math—both to reinforce skills and to extend students' learning. In all learning spaces, Laura employs an inclusive, assets-based approach to center students' strengths, interests, and autonomy so that their learning is meaningful and lasting.

Emily is a bilingual (Spanish) Speech-Language Pathologist and experienced tutor. Emily received a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Spanish at Bucknell University and a master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a Bilingual Extension at Teachers College, Columbia University. She maintains certification in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is licensed in New York State. She also holds an initial certification as Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD). Emily currently works at a special education school, providing individualized support for middle and high school students with language-based learning disorders and difficulties. She has gained extensive experience implementing and developing curriculums to serve students with language and learning needs. Emily also works one-on-one with students after school to provide a range of academic support. Through her work, she believes in creating a positive and energetic learning environment for her students to help them achieve their highest potential. Her areas of specialty include executive functioning deficits, reading, writing, and organizational skills. 

Adam is an educator, creative technologist, and musician based in Brooklyn, New York. Adam has taught computer science and music technology to students of all ages around New York City for various programs and schools, including New York University, Manhattan Youth, Maker-State and Urban Arts Partnership. His recent work also includes sound installations at music festivals and museums, LED lighting displays in the Macy's Christmas windows, and touring the country as a guitarist. Adam is a graduate of New York University where he studied Music Technology and Computer Science.

Lauren studied at Boston University, where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees in Hispanic Language and Literature. During her time in college, she studied abroad in Madrid, Spain, where she attended the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and, subsequently, began her obsession with tapas. After college, Lauren worked at a pharmaceutical translations company before she was offered the opportunity to teach high school Spanish. She later obtained her master’s in Teaching from Sacred Heart University. She is currently a high school Spanish teacher in Fairfield County, CT. Lauren loves teaching her students how to communicate and relate to others around the world. She is passionate about human connection through shared language and cultural appreciation.

Samantha is an experienced reading specialist with a passion for working with students of all ages. She received two master’s degrees from Columbia University Teachers College: one in Secondary English Education and one in Literacy. She has experience both working as a learning specialist at a private special education school and as a literacy instructor at a private post-secondary school (both in Manhattan). Additional experience includes academic testing, SAT/PSAT administration, and working as a literacy practitioner in a clinical setting. In addition to reading/writing instruction, Samantha enjoys teaching reading comprehension as well as study skills. As a former “messy kid,” Samantha has a passion for helping students develop strong executive functioning skills, as well as foster positive learning habits that they can carry into adulthood. Samantha brings warmth, compassion, humor, and energy into her tutoring. 

Brittany is an experienced learning specialist with a penchant for reading and finding creative ways to engage even the most reluctant learner. She received her undergraduate degree from Muhlenberg College and earned her M.S.Ed. from Bank Street College of Education in Childhood Education and Teaching Literacy (Birth-Grade 6). For the past three years, Brittany has provided one-on-one remediation to students with a range of learning differences including dyslexia, receptive and expressive language deficits and executive functioning challenges. Prior to her time working in special education, Brittany classroom taught 3rd and 4th grade. Brittany has experience utilizing multisensory Orton-Gillingham based programs to support reading remediation, including The Wilson Reading System, Preventing Academic Failure, and Recipe for Reading. In her practice, Brittany works with students as they build not only their academic skills, but also their confidence and self-esteem as learners. With each student, Brittany works tirelessly to provide a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment to help each and every learner reach their full potential. 

Nikki is a Speech-Language Pathologist who received her bachelor’s degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences at the University of Maryland. She earned a Master of Science in Communication Sciences from Hunter College. Nikki holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is licensed to practice Speech-Language Pathology in New York State. Nikki is also certified as a Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD) in New York State. Nikki currently works at a private school in New York City where she provides daily one-to-one support, focuses on building positive relationships and a productive learning environment for her students, and creates individualized curriculums. She has experience working with students in preschool through 12th grade with a variety of learning profiles, including receptive and expressive language disabilities, executive functioning difficulties, and social pragmatic disorders.

Randi spent thirty years as a classroom teacher and a Learning Specialist. She holds a degree in Education and Child Study from Smith College and a master's degree in Reading and Literacy from Bank Street College, but her passion is teaching math. Randi uses her skills and experience as a reading specialist to help students break the code of mathematics, and begin to comprehend the concepts behind the word problems. 

Teresa is a student-centered, innovative teaching professional with a genuine interest in students’ cognitive and social growth. Teresa completed her undergraduate and graduate coursework at Old Dominion University, where she majored in Elementary Education. She currently teaches 3rd grade, where she is committed to instilling confidence in her students through meaningful feedback and appropriate encouragement. Teresa also has experience working with students ranging from Pre-K through 5th grade through various school programs. She uses a strong, personalized approach to ensure that students feel welcomed and safe to question, wonder, and take risks in their learning. Her passion and dedication as an educator allow her to build meaningful relationships with her students to achieve their goals!

Kelly earned a B.A. in English from Davidson College and an M.A. in Religion from the University of Georgia, and pursued further graduate study (ABD) in Religion at Vanderbilt University. She has worked with students in a variety of settings: independent schools, special education, enrichment, 1:1 tutoring, and undergraduate and graduate programs. Kelly's varied experiences as an educator have helped her to develop the flexibility and creativity to support students at all skill levels. She loves watching students reach those gratifying moments when new concepts click into place, and she strives to help every student achieve a sense of pride when their hard work and persistence pays off in higher grades, deeper understanding, and increased confidence. 

Lindsey is an experienced and passionate Early Childhood Educator, who graduated magna cum laude from Tulane University with a double major in Anthropology and Spanish. After completing teachNOLA teacher training, she taught in a Montessori K-1-2 classroom at a New Orleans charter school for 2 years, where she was recognized as teacher of the year in her first year. Lindsey then taught 1st and 2nd grade as a lead teacher for 3 years at a charter school in Harlem. For the past 3 years, she has worked at a literacy program on the Upper East Side, teaching children ages 3-6 in small groups, focusing on rigorous academic instruction and 1:1 tutoring sessions. Lindsey has also written K-1-2 math curriculum as an independent content contributor and has experience tutoring children ages 4-9 in math, reading, and writing. Lindsey is passionate about teaching the whole child and building authentic relationships with both students and families. She believes that children learn best when engaged in their interests, and from individualized academic instruction. 

Lindsey graduated with her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Binghamton University and then pursued her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Hofstra University. She currently holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), as well as a New York State license to practice Speech-Language Pathology. Additionally, she is TSSLD certified (Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities) in NY. Lindsey has provided services in public and private schools to individuals from kindergarten through 21 years of age with language processing and language-based learning difficulties. She also has expertise in helping students struggling with social communication skills. Currently, Lindsey works in a private special day school in Manhattan for children with learning differences. She works with elementary, middle, and high school students with diverse learning profiles, including dyslexia, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, executive functioning difficulties, and social communication disorders. Lindsey works with her students in a 1:1 setting and understands the importance of building relationships with the students and families she services. She strives to capitalize on a child’s strengths and interests to develop various skill sets further. Molly is a passionate and dedicated educator based in Brooklyn. She taught in early childhood classrooms for 7 years and after leaving the classroom, she has continued to support families/students through classes and one-on-one tutoring.  Molly believes in educating the whole child and works tirelessly to create individualized instruction that both challenges and supports each student. She works with children in pre-k through 4th grade and excels at pre-k readiness, writing/organization and early reading/reading comprehension. Molly received her undergraduate degree from Skidmore College in Elementary Education and a Masters in Childhood Special Education at Bank Street College of Education. Julie received her bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education from the University of Delaware. She went on to earn her master's degree in Literacy from Teachers College of Columbia University. She holds state certifications in Childhood Education, Students with Disabilities, and Literacy. Julie currently works as a learning specialist and science teacher at a private school for students with learning disabilities. In these roles, she provides targeted instruction in reading, writing, executive functioning, and social pragmatics in a one-on-one setting, as well as science content in a whole-group setting. During the summer, she enjoys teaching at a science camp run by Teachers College. Julie believes in meeting students where they are and capitalizing on their strengths for a fully personalized learning experience.

Betsy is a first grade teacher at Purchase Elementary School in the Harrison Central School District. She previously taught at a private school on the Upper West Side for the last nine years. She received her Master’s Degree in General Education from Hunter College for first through sixth grades. Betsy has a passion for teaching math and reading to first through third-graders, including those who are advanced and those who need support to learn these fundamental skills. She loves to see her students take ownership of their math and literacy learning. She believes in game-based, hands-on, multi-sensory approach to mastering mathematical concepts and building decoding skills. She currently teaches using the Singapore Math in Focus curriculum and is trained in EveryMath, Exemplars, Mathletics, and Matific. Betsy is also passionate about reading and believes in the importance of building students’ confidence at the elementary level. She has experience in the Teachers College Reading Workshop and Fountas and Pinnel reading programs. She loves to find ways to spark reading in young children and scaffold and develop reading strategies to support them as they acquire underlying literacy skills. She is also trained in the Level 1 Fundations program and currently uses this program in her classroom. 

Maria was born and raised in Madrid, Spain. She brings over 10 years of experience teaching and tutoring language to young learners. She completed her Masters degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language at Comillas University in 2018, and another Masters degree in Bilingual education from La Universidad Francisco de Vitoria in 2023. Her educational philosophy has been influenced through extensive experience in Reggio Emilia-based environments and her students are living proof that learning language should and can be fun! She is an expert in tutoring students of all levels in Spanish as well as English as a Second Language.
