Kindergarten Readiness

Kindergarten readiness is a term used to describe the various developmental domains that contribute to a child’s ability to adapt to the new and unfamiliar environment of the kindergarten classroom. One-on-one support from a kindergarten readiness tutor will help ensure that your child will develop their skills to prepare to successfully transition from preschool to kindergarten!

By kindergarten, students should be able to speak in complete sentences and be verbally and nonverbally understood most of the time, use words to express their wants and needs, request items, respond to greetings, understand and follow multi-step directions, and make comparisons and describe relationships between objects (e.g., big/little, under/over, first/last, short/tall).

Tutors will also target letter and number fluency as well as other foundational skills necessary to make a successful transition from preschool to kindergarten, including writing letters and words, letter recognition, beginning sounds, number recognition and counting, shapes and colors, fine motor skills, and reading readiness.

Our tutors also have experience helping students prepare for kindergarten readiness entrance exams. Specifically, the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment (KRA) measures the student’s knowledge, skills, and behaviors in four learning domains: Language & Literacy, Mathematics, Physical Well-being & Motor Development, and Social Foundations.

Physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development are all essential to develop in order to be kindergarten ready!
